Friends make the world go round. Without them, it’s more difficult to see the beauty around you. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the world around us. We get so distracted by what we think we want or need that we let the simple things slip through our grasp.

I’ve been incredibly blessed with the people in my life. Not sure how it happened, but I’ve got a great support network of friends and family and I thank God for that.

They sharpen me as iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17). They give me strength when I need it and help me when I’m weak and hurting. They walk beside me and laugh alongside me.

The best part of having friends is that you have companions on this journey. Not perfect, idyllic champions to defend you and fight your battles for you. Broken people who are just scraping by, same as you, but who see your inner beauty and the truth of who you really are: a child of God worthy to love and be loved.

Without friends and family to pour your heart out to, you’re just a lonely heart bursting with love and no one to share it with. It might hurt to be open and vulnerable, especially when someone doesn’t want to reciprocate. But, it’s better to take the risk than to have a heart of stone. Unfeeling and unconcerned for your fellow men and women.

Find companions who will walk beside you and challenge you to become the best version of yourself. In this new year, you’ve got a chance to make a new you. Why not make the most of it? Your friends and family are definitely a big part of forming who you are. Don’t let it seem unimportant or trivial.

The simplest choices are sometimes the most significant.
